Also close to the city center, the popular Alaska Aviation Museum is located to one side of the Red Stevens Anchorage International Airport and features an array of historic aircraft and memorabilia. Visitors often like to take a stroll along the shoreline of the adjacent Hood Lake.

Aviation has played a prominent role in Alaska's history and development, and the Alaska Aviation Museum is a celebration of the lives of the brave pilots and sturdy aircraft that helped build the state. On display are 25 historic aircraft fully restored, a cinema with films on the history of aviation in the state, and a gift shop with plenty of aeronautical paraphernalia. The observation deck offers some great views over Lake Hood.
